Background

Millets have been an integral part of our diet for centuries. In addition to a plethora of health benefits, millets are also good for the environment with low water & input requirement. With the aim to create awareness and increase the production & consumption of millets, United Nations, at the proposal of the Government of India, declared 2023 the International Year of Millets. To commemorate this, FSSAI under Eat Right India initiatives is hosting various interactive activities around Millets

Eat Right Millet Challenge

'Eat Right Millet Challenge' for Campus is an initiative to encourage millet-based food products, recipes, and their benefits to people at large. This challenge will promote the use of millet as part of a healthy and diverse diet through certified eat-right campuses.

The Eat Right Millet Challenge for Campus being launched as part of the celebration of the International Year of Millet. It aims to aware and inculcate millet-based healthy dietary habits in young minds and working people. The competition aims to encourage canteens of various workplaces and college campuses to create an environment of millet-based healthy food service and to engage, excite and enable people about the benefits of Millet. Millets consumption confers several benefits and helps in managing lifestyle diseases. Due to their high density of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and dietary fiber, millets are also excellent grains to alleviate malnutrition and micronutrient deficiency.
