The district of Sagar lies in the north central region of MP. Also known as the heart of Madhya Pradesh , the district has a truly central location in the country.

As per census 2011, the population of Sagar is 2,378,458 .

Once during the visit of our Ex-Prime Minister Late Pt Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru, he termed Sagar as the Switzerland of Madhya Pradesh seeing the scenic beauty of Sagar during monsoon. Sagar has been selected as one of the hundred Indian cities to be developed as a smart city under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission and listed as the top safest city of India.
